Financial planning should be an activity families spend as much time on as they do planning their yearly vacations. However, most families focus their planning sessions on vacations and not their financial futures.
This is a major reason companies prey on families with junk mail offers for credit cards and loans. Many families have planned their vacation but are falling short with the money to book the travel. When a credit card or loan offer drops in their mailbox its treated as a solution to book the travel.
If the family had a financial plan that was outlined ahead of time, the money needed for the vacation would be saved and the impulse to open new credit accounts wouldn’t exist.
Steps to Stop Financial Planning Junk Mail
Three steps for stopping financial junk mail offers and the impulse of signing up for them:
Get off the mailing list: Stop offers of unsolicited mail, telemarketing and email. Visit the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) website for exact steps.
Opt Out: Get your name off the marketing lists by sending letters to those selling the lists. Direct Marketing Association is a large source of mailing lists. Go to their site to take your name of their list by visiting them here and clicking on the orange box “remove my name from mailing lists”.
Call to stop Pre-approved offers: Call 888-567-8688 and ask to have your name, phone and address removed from pre-approved credit card and loan offers.
