The 80-20 principle completely changed my life. Read the next few paragraphs slowly – this is possibly the most important concept you can ever read about. The principle is:
Only 20% of your work gets 80% of the results.
Only 20% of customers end up buying 80% of your products. Only 20% of my traffic earns me 80% of my revenue. Only 20% of my time studying gets 80% of my increased grade.
It’s not an exact science, of course, but it’s extremely helpful in getting into the right mindset. Sometimes it could be called the 30-70 rule, or the 90-10 rule or something else entirely.
But the point is: most of what we do barely matters, if at all. Most time in school is wasted. Most time at work is wasted. Seneca once said, “It is not that we have a short space of time, but that we waste much of it.”
Want to get more done? Stop focusing on what doesn’t matter. You can increase the time you have by 80%, allowing you to get much, much more done while working even less. Productivity is beautiful.
Success is Finding the “20″
When it comes to building a website, the 80-20 principle couldn’t be more true. Most people with websites spend hours and hours “writing” posts for their website/blog, and don’t see any results. This happens at almost every blog I have seen where the author is trying to make money online.
The other day I stumbled across a personal finance website that was similar to my site… the only difference is that the webmaster had nearly 5 times the content, and ended up failing to make money, and moved on to other areas of his life.
What a tragedy. The 80-20 principle could have changed his life. Instead, he wasted months emotionally and mentally killing himself, only to end up failing.
Making money online isn’t about working hard – it’s about working productively. There’s a difference.
The 80-20 Principle and Traffic
This website is about making money online. Unfortunately, if you don’t understand the 80-20 principle, you’ll probably fail. It’s essential. It’s life changing. You’ll never be the same.
The most important impact to your ability to make money with a website? Knowing that almost all traffic is pointless.
Almost everyone who goes to a website will soon leave without clicking a link, subscribing or buying anything. They wasted your time. It doesn’t matter if you have 100,000 people going to your website every day — if they don’t do something, there’s no point.
The 80-20 Principle and Content
Almost all of the content on a website is pointless. Most articles don’t make money. Most articles don’t increase traffic. Most articles do very, very little. If anything, most articles just add to the clutter on the Internet, and drive people to leave the website early.
Learning this will save you months of killing yourself. Rather than focus on writing a new article every week, you can start writing just one a month… and still get the same income.
Stop Wasting Time
Getting stuff done is always about the key essentials. This means if you’ve been reading about making money online, yet still don’t own your own domain name, you aren’t getting anything done. You can get started for less than 50 bucks.
Seriously, for 4 bucks a month, get your own website. You can actually have a website set up in a few minutes (it’s no more complicated than email). Statistically speaking, if you don’t start now, you’ll never start.
After you do that, come back here and keep reading. Let’s use the 80-20 principle to build you a full-time online income, using tactics I’ve tested myself to make sure they actually work.
