Two types of people in this context - Ones that get degrees and others that start a business. If you are the type to get a degree then most likely you are of the mindset to get a job at someone else company. Not always true but mostly true. The others start a business of their own and make it big. The ones who make it by themselves are the ones who have a mindset to go ahead and risk it along with a dogged determination to succeed. The ones who get degrees are already programmed to work for someone else. Then there is the third type who get a degree or go to classes to get access to knowledge. They may or may not finish the degree but gain enough knowledge to be dangerous. Then they go ahead and make it on their own. You have to decide what is your personality and go with that. None of the above a in any way better than the other.

Many companies won't even let you advance up the corporate ladder unless you have a bachelor's degree. Making blanket statements isn't advised.

Thank you for sharing your opinion and your advice. Though I feel that a secondary education is very important, it is not mandatory... except in SOME fields. I firmly agree with those millionaires and businessmen your father worked with. Successful people know that it is important to hire quality experience over education.

My advice for those people without a degree: Become self-educated and start your own company. Then hire the professionals, who aren't willing to be entrepreneurs, to grow the company.

SIDE NOTE: My following comments are directed towards "ascending pig"--
You have a point... However, you should learn the proper way to correct people when YOU think they are wrong.

Now, I can see how advising readers to kill themselves would be considers "awful" advice! But, I don't see anything "awful" or extremely objectionable about advising readers to intern free for a month. Is it the greatest advice? No... Is it guaranteed to get you a job? No... Is it worth a shot if everything else fails? Absolutely.

'Offer to “intern”, free of charge, for a month. That’s an almost guaranteed way to land any job.'

This advice is just awful. Good internships are in high demand. Even if you're unsalaried, the money they spend on training and accommodating a new employee is guaranteed to make them wary of anyone who thinks they can jump in with no experience and no degree.

Even if you impress them, many companies specifically forbid internships for anyone not currently earning a degree because they don't want to program to be a backdoor to a long-term job.
